Each week, older preschoolers have fun making a craft! This week they made postcards to use to invite their friends to church (see below).

When we invite people to church, we are like the first church in Acts that we learned about this Sunday. Help your child invite someone to church this week by giving them or mailing them the postcard your preschooler had fun creating this Sunday!

In large group, Zip and Andy Made their way to the top of the leaderboard of the Ultimate Theme Park Challenge by riding the Farris Wheel 8 times to gain 800 points each! Then, Fil Finagin announced that the person at the bottom of the leaderboard was going to be taken out of the competition unless someone wanted to give some of their points away. Zip and Andy decided to work together to each give away 500 points. By working together, they were able to do something great!

Wil Winagin told us the story of the Early Church from Acts 2:42-47. From this story, we learned God Does Great Things Through His Church!

Kids had a special assignment in small group to show that God STILL does great things through his church today. We're asking every K-5th grader to bring ONE can of food with them to church next week. Together, everyone in KidSpring will be able to help our community more than we could on our own!

Help your kids understand this by giving them opportunities to think of others before themselves. Here are a few ways you could do that:

  • Donate food to a local food bank
  • Donate items to a homeless shelter
  • Volunteer as a family at community events
  • Helping people put their groceries in the car after shopping
  • Taking a neighbor's trash off for them
  • Writing thank-you notes to local fire-fighters or policemen

We see how great God's love is in our memory verse for this series:

as all God’s people should, (spread arms to sides, palms up)

From this Bible story, we learned that I Can Love Others! In small group we talked about times when we can choose to love others. We can love others who are kind and play with us, and we can love others who may push or laugh at us. Jesus can help us love others--even those who are hard to love--because that's what He wants us to do!

In Large Group, Zip lost his iPod and needed help finding it, but the Tilt-A-Whirl ride was offering double points for the Ultimate Theme Park Challenge and that is Andy's most favorite ride in the whole wide world. Zip told Andy to go ride the Tilt-A-Whirl without him while he continued looking for his iPod, but Andy decided to stay and help Zip. Wil Winagin told us the story of Naomi and Ruth from Ruth 1-4. From this story, we learned I Should Love Others The Way God Loves Me!

Help kids understand this by asking them what they think is valuable. This could be a special video game, book, jewelry, or pet!  Ask kids why they find this item valuable. Ask them how much they would be willing to sell it for. When they realize that they wouldn't want to sell this valuable item, remind them that God thinks they are valuable! We are priceless to Him and He loves us so much! They can see this in our memory verse for this series:

]]> Sunday at KidSpring...., 2012-05-11T18:57:40+00:00 Elementary School Small Groups:: May 6, 2012 http://newspring.cc/kidspring/blog/small-group-activity-in-elementary-school-may-6-2012/ http://newspring.cc/kidspring/blog/small-group-activity-in-elementary-school-may-6-2012/#When:18:45:20Z On Sunday, we learned I Am Valuable To God!  Since the world tells kids some things that are untrue, we want kids to be armed with Scripture to help them remember that they are valuable to God!  Here are a few situations we discussed in small group on Sunday and the Scripture used to fight those situations:

  • "You're never going to be good at anything."  (Look up Jeremiah 29:11)
  • "You can't do anything.  You're a wimp."  (Look up Philippians 4:13)
  • "I am scared of some people at my school."  (Look up 1 John 4:4)
  • "Who would ever choose you for anything?"  (Look up 1 Thessalonians 1:4)
  • "No one loves you."  (Look up Isaiah 43:4)
  • "You're a nobody."  (Look up John 1:12)
  • "You don't have any friends."  (Look up Proverbs 18:24)
  • "People don't invite me to things and I'm really lonely."  (Look up Hebrews 13:5)
  • "Things are bad and they are never going to get better."  (Look up Romans 8:28)
  • "No one thinks I'm beautiful."  (Look up Psalm 45:11)

This can be a great activity for your family to do while at home or even in the car!  Think of other things your child might struggle with and help them learn to look in God's Word when they want answers.  Remind them that I Am Valuable To God!

You can practice it at home with your preschooler, too! We put some motions with it to help your little ones remember it better:

With all your soul, (clasp hands in center of chest)

In small group we used our eyes and ears to play "Zany Lainey Says". We learned that our eyes and ears can help us find God's plan for us. We can use our eyes to read about God's great plans for us in the BIble, and we can use our ears to listen for God's plan when we pray. We can listen to God just like Samuel did in 1 Samuel 3. Zingo told us this Bible story in Large Group during the "Zany & Zingo Show". Click below to see!

Someone inside the park convinced them that they were scaredy cats and wouldn't ever be able to win.  Thankfully, they agreed to play a game that Wil Winagin made up after reading a story from Mark 10:13-16. From this story, we learned I Am Valuable To God!

In Large Group, we met our new friends, Zip and Andy! Zip thought that making good grades and having perfect attendance was the only way to deserve to come to the park.  However, Andy didn't do anything to deserve to come to the park.  Wil Winagin, the inventor of all the games at Beginagin Theme Park, taught us about a story from Luke 15:11-32 to help us understand I Don't Deserve God's Love, But He Still Loves Me!

In small group we learned what we need to know today: "I Am Special To Jesus!" We also played a fun action game to help us understand that we are ALL special to Jesus no matter what we look like or are good at doing!

In Large Group, our new friends Zip & Flip told how special all the rides in SpringTown Fun Park are. We also met Zany Lainey and her puppet friend Zingo. They told us this fun Bible story during their show--the Zany & Zingo Show. It's the story of Zacchaeus from Luke 19:1-10!
