10.30.11

This week in The Great Race, we traveled to the Swiss Alps for a sled race where we learned that we should keep on telling others to do what is right!

In Large Group, each team had to sled halfway down the slope, pick up the team flag, and then continue down the slope to the finish line.  Dr. Despair attempted to cheat by sending Peggy Panic to cause an avalanche, trapping Kip and Jenny under the snow.  Kip Daring was able to foil Dr. Despair's evil plan by telling Peggy Panic to do the right thing and not cause the avalanche.  It looks like Kip Daring will hold on to the championship medal for yet another week!

In our Bible Story from Nehemiah 5:1-13, some men and women told Nehemiah about a problem they were having.  The poor families did not have enough money for food and had to sell their children into slavery!  When these families told Nehemiah what was going on, he called a meeting and told everyone that this was the wrong thing to do!  Nehemiah made sure that the poor families were taken care of and did not have to sell their children into slavery.  From this story, we learned I Will Keep On Telling Others To Do What Is Right!

Come back next week for another race and to learn another lesson from Nehemiah!

10.30.11

This Sunday, preschoolers in KidSpring learned to say "I Will Be Patient!" Being patient means waiting with a happy heart. A Bible story about two brothers named Jacob & Esau taught us that bad things can happen if we are not patient (Genesis 25:27-34). One day when Esau was very hungry, he did not want to wait for food, so he made a very bad choice. Esau chose to trade all the good things his dad was going to give him one day (his birthright) for a little bowl of stew from his brother. Because Esau made a bad choice, he would never have any of the good things his dad was going to give him.

Practice being patient as you wait for Halloween candy this week! While you are waiting with a happy heart, say our series Remember Verse together:

"So let's not (shake arms in "no" motion)

get tired (lay head on hands like sleeping)

of doing what is good." (two thumbs up)

Galatians 6:9 (hold up six fingers)

Don't miss the The Grace Race Jr. next Sunday as we race the Anything-Mobile around the pyramids in Egypt!

10.25.11

Being nice when others are mean is a hard thing to do. This Sunday in KidSpring, preschoolers learned to say "I Will Be Nice When Others Are Mean!" from the story of Saul's Conversion in Acts 9:1-28. Saul was mean to others. He wanted to get rid of all of the people who believed in Jesus. There was a man named Ananias who decided to be nice to Paul even though he was mean to others. There are times when other people will be mean to us and we can't stop them. We show them God's love when we are nice to them, even though they are mean to us.

In large group, we helped Kimmie be nice to Guy when he was not nice to her.  In small group we raced race cars and talked about times when we should be nice to others.  We sang this song to the tune of Frere' Jacques: "Let’s go driving, let’s go driving. Around the block, around the block. We will keep on driving, we will keep on driving. Then we’ll stop!  Then we’ll stop!  We also practiced remembering this verse from the Bible:

"So let's not (shake arms in "no" motion)

get tired (lay head on hands like sleeping)

of doing what is good." (two thumbs up)

Galatians 6:9 (hold up six fingers)

Don't miss the next Sunday in The Grace Race Jr. as we get the Anything-Mobile ready to race down the Swiss Alps!

10.23.11

This week in The Great Race, we traveled to the Amazon River in South America and learned that we should encourage others when they are being bullied!

In Large Group, racers on each team had to paddle canoes down the Amazon River in order to win.  Kip Daring's plan of encouraging his teammate while paddling worked much better than Dr. Despair's plan to cheat and hide a motor under the canoe.  Kip Daring's team won and kept the championship medal!

In our Bible Story from Nehemiah 4, Nehemiah encouraged his people to keep building the wall even though some bullies named Sanballat and Tobiah came to make fun of them.  Just like Nehemiah encouraged his people when they were bullied, we should do the same thing!  We should remember I Will Keep On Encouraging Others When They Are Bullied!

We also learned the next part of our Memory Verse.  We learned

"We should remove from our lives (act like you are tossing something over shoulder)

anything that would get in the way (use hands to cover eyes)

and the sin that holds us back.  (make fists and pull back toward body)

Hebrews 12:1b"

Remember that we learned the first part of the verse last week and we will learn more of the verse in the next few weeks!  Keep practicing the verse at home!

Come back next week to see what we will be learning from Nehemiah!

10.16.11

This week in The Great Race we traveled to the Taj Mahal in India and learned that we each have an imporant part to do in God's plan!

In Large Group, racers on each team had to do their part as they worked together to pull rickshaw carts down a corridor while cutting balloons free.  Dr. Despair's plan to launch evil attack monkeys on Kip Daring backfired and Kip's team won the race!

In our Bible Story from Nehemiah 2:11-3:32, Nehemiah got each person to do his or her part in rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem. Just like each person was part of Nehemiah's plan, each of us are a part of God's plan! He wants the whole world to know about Jesus, and we can do our part by telling others about Him! Remember, I Will Keep On Doing My Part Of God's Plan!

Join us next week for another great race!
