02.26.12

This week in Power Up, we learned about perseverence! Perseverence is when we choose not to give up when things get hard.

In Large Group, Rom and Ram had to press a button as a laser arrow hit the button. The game got really hard as the arrows started falling faster. Rom and Ram didn't persevere and they gave up every time they missed an arrow. Rom and Ram got angry with each other and began to restart the game before it even started! Using the code segment from the Game Boss, our tour group was able to unscramble a message and send it to Rom and Ram. They learned I Will Persevere! After learning this, Rom and Ram decided that they would finish the game, even though it was hard. Their perseverence helped them complete the level and master the game!

In Small Group, we read a story from 2 Kings 22-23 about a king named Josiah who became king when he was 8 years old. When Josiah  was 26 years old, he ordered the repair of the Temple in Jerusalem. One day the king's assistant was looking through things at the Temple and found an old book. The book was the Book of God's Laws. The assistant took the book to King Josiah so he could read the it. King Josiah was upset that people were not obeying the laws.  He decided to enforce the laws in Jerusalem. He read the book to all the priests and leaders and asked them to do as the book commanded. Josiah had every statue of a false god destroyed. It was not easy for King Josiah to get his people to obey the commandments, but he persevered and did it anyway.

Ahoy KidSpring Parents! Next week we set sail aboard the Penny Poor! We're excited about starting our new Pirates next week and we hope to see your family will join us on this voyage!  Here's a sneak peek at what's coming up:

02.26.12

This week in Power Up, we learned about telling the truth.  We learned that we should ALWAYS tell the truth!

In Large Group, Button and Switch made it to the final level of the game - the Diamond Zone!  They found a treasure chest, which they suspected held the Power Up Piece.  However, after trying to open it, they found out that the treasure chest was locked!  When someone else entered the Diamond Zone, Button and Switch were worried that this new person might try to take the treasure chest from them.  Instead of telling the truth that they had the treasure chest, Button and Switch lied.  They made up a story about a robot dinosaur who came and ate the treasure chest!  After hearing the Bible Story, Button and Switch learned I Will Tell The Truth! They told the truth and even got help openening the treasure chest!  They won the final Power Up Piece and became video game champions!

In Small Group, we read a story from Luke 22:54-62.  This story was about a man named Peter.  Peter was one of Jesus' disciples.  On the day Jesus was arrested, though, Peter lied about knowing Jesus because he was afraid that he might get into trouble.  Peter did not just lie one time.  He lied three times!  After lying, Peter was very sad and he started to cry.  Jesus forgave Peter for lying, and He will forgive us too.  However, we should remember that the right thing to do is tell the truth!

We had so much fun during Power Up!  Next week, we will be setting sail with Captain Buckleboots in a brand new series!  Join us as we make great discoveries about Jesus and the Bible!

02.19.12

This week in Power Up, we learned about being honest! Being honest means that we always tell the truth, even when it isn’t easy.

In Large Group, Rom and Ram had to get through some electricty bolts to hit the button to the next level. They had to use a shield code that had been given to them in a previous week. Ram was supposed to remember the shield code so he could give it to Rom, but he didn’t remember the code. Ram lied to Rom by telling Rom that he remembered the code. Ram let his friend get hit by the electricity bolts over and over. Using the code segments from the Game Boss, our tour group was able to unscramble a message and send it to Rom and Ram. They learned I Will Be Honest! After learning this, Ram was honest with Rom and told him that he didn’t remember the shield code. Luckily, Rom remembered the shield code and was able to give it to Ram and they made it to the next level!

In Small Group, we read a story from 1 Kings 13 about a man named King Jeroboam. King Jeroboam did not want his people worshipping God, so he built statues for his people to worship. They even gave their offerings to these statues! God sent a man to tell King Jeroboam that what he was doing was wrong. God also told the man not to eat or drink anything while he was in Israel. King Jeroboam invited the man of God back to his palace to eat and receive a gift, but the man was faithful to God so he declined the offer. The man of God was sitting under a tree one day when an old prophet came up and invited him to come eat and drink at his house. The man of God told the old prophet what God had told him, but the old prophet lied and said that an angel had come to him and told him to bring the man of God home so he could eat and drink. The man of God disobeyed God and went to the old prophet's home and ate. When the man of God left the prophet’s house, he was attacked and killed by a lion. He didn’t know the prophet was lying, but he had disobeyed God and been punished for it. The old prophet knew the man of God was killed as a result of his lie and felt very guilty.

We also learned the next part of our Memory Verse. Next week, we will get a prize for saying as much of the verse as we can! Here is what we learned on Sunday:

“Run away from evil things that young people long for.
(run in place)

Try hard to do what is right.
(thumbs up)

Have faith, love, and peace.
(count on fingers 1, 2, 3)

Do these things together with those who call on the Lord
(point to everyone in the group)

From a pure heart.”
(point to heart)

2 Timothy 2:22 (NIrV)

Come back next week to see Rom and Ram take on more challenges in the Sector and learn more about God as we go through the video game!

02.19.12

This week in Power Up, we learned about doing things for others!

In Large Group, we joined Button and Switch in the Cloud Zone.  Switch found out that the clouds were bouncy and he had fun bouncing high up into the clouds.  Button wanted to bounce too, but she couldn't because she was carrying the heavy backpack.  The man in charge of the Cloud Zone told Switch that he should do something for Button by holding the backpack so she could jump!  At first, Switch was confused, but after hearing a story from the Bible, Switch learned I Will Do Things For Others!  After that, Switch let Button jump on the clouds and she jumped so high that she found the next Power Up Piece up in the clouds!

In Small Group, we read a story from John 13:1-17.  This story was about a time that Jesus washed the disciples' feet.  During that time, people walked along dirt roads for long distances.  Their feet would be very dirty!  Usually, a servant would wash people's feet when they entered a house.  However, Jesus decided that He would do something for His disciples by washing their feet.  He knew it was very important to do things for others!  We learned that we should also do things for others!

Come back next week as we join Button and Switch as they try to find the last Power Up Piece!
