We Are the Church

The last place I wanted to go was church. After hours in a U-Haul, days spent unpacking, and weeks of church shopping, I was exhausted. Then we rolled into the NewSpring parking lot. From the moment we arrived, I felt less tired. We were assisted with parking, escorted to our children’s classrooms, reassured of their safety, enjoyed the great teaching from Perry, and shown hospitality by everyone we encountered. I am thankful for the believers who faithfully served that day. I realized that every person that serves at a church is what makes the church successful or not. My experience would have been completely different if no one believed they had an important role to play outside of the pastor.

We All Play a Part

Romans 12:5 reminds us, “in Christ, we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” The Church is not made of the building or staff, but of every individual believer. Regardless of size, shape, background, or color, each Christian is created on purpose and for a purpose. Every person is needed!

According to 1 Peter 4:10-11, each of us has been given a spiritual gift to use for building the Church. God has equipped us to specifically to plug in to NewSpring Church. If you are not sure what that looks like for you, ask God to help you figure out your gift. You can sign up to volunteer here, and learn about all the different ministry areas.  Whatever your role turns out to be, realize your willingness to serve could change someone’s life forever. Someone could meet Jesus because you were willing to serve with joy this Sunday.

Our Church Is Only Growing if We Are Growing

God has a next step for our church and a next step for me and you. If NewSpring is going to reach the next level, continue to grow and continue to see life change happen, then all of us will have to play a part. A body with no feet or no eyes cannot function as intended. The Bible compares the church to a body because every part is necessary in growth. Every member is important because every member plays a part in making the whole church successful (1 Corinthians 12:12-27).

If I am not taking next steps, then our church is not reaching its full potential. God has placed you and I in this church and at this time on purpose. Just like He knits together our bodies with special care (Psalm 139), He has placed our church together with special care, and called us to one mission. So, what is my next step? What is your next step? When we are willing to listen to God and do what He says, it not only serves to bring joy into our own life, but it serves to grow NewSpring Church. Individual obedience can bring a collective blessing.
