3 Ways To Do Good Today

Given the choice between good and evil, most people would choose good. Most of us would say that we don’t actively search for evil.

However, as we go through our days, it can be really easy to put energy into selfish behaviors. We decide not to help a struggling coworker. We withhold our tithe, or skip that phone call to a loved one.

Proverbs 11:27 says, “Whoever seeks good finds favor, but evil comes to one who searches for it.” How do we actively chase after what is good to put away the search for evil?

  1. Be a servant — Serving others can look different every day. We can go the extra mile at work, run an errand for a friend, or give our time at church.
  2. Be generous — Two verses earlier in Proverbs 11:25, it says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” If we give our resources to others, not only will our focus shift from us, but we are promised refreshment or newness from God.
  3. Be loving — Relationships are a huge part of our lives. Home, school, church, and work all offer unique relationships that are opportunities to love people in the way we treat them.

The more we get to know Jesus, the more we become like Him. Following Jesus’ lead will always helps us to love what is good. As we commit ourselves to the good of others, we will find growing favor with God as we become more like Jesus.
