A Command For Every Christian

Becoming a new Christian is amazing. When you first get saved you get that tremendous feeling from switching over from death to life. You know that you are going to be with Jesus for eternity. There is nothing better than that!

The question many of us wrestle with after we meet Jesus is "What do I do next?" The Bible says God has given every Christian at least one spiritual gift (1 Peter 4:10). We told to hold on to our gifts and use them to benefit God's kingdom (Revelation 3:8,11). This is a command, not a suggestion.

Everyone has a next step, whether you've been following Jesus for 5 months or 50 years. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that they need a little Christian "seasoning" before they can be useful to the church and to others. Nothing could be farther from the truth. No matter where we are in our relationships with Jesus, we all have a gift that can be used in the church.

A great way to identify our gifts is through serving. If you are an owner at NewSpring, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Pray for wisdom and guidance about finding the best place for you to serve. Serving blesses us as much as it blesses others. When we serve, we learn more about who God has made us to be and we get to see Him change lives before our very eyes.

Reflect:

  • What are you passionate about? What do you do well? If you aren’t sure, ask people around you. This could help you identify your gifts!
  • What is your next step? If you aren’t sure, check out some possibilities here.
  • How can you use your gift(s) to help the church and God's people? If you don’t already serve in the church, find opportunities here!
