A Solid Place to Stand

Psalm 40

I have always wanted to be “slimed.” Ever since Nickelodeon started a show where people were cheered for as they had an enormous bucket of green goo dumped on their heads, I wanted to be on the receiving end of that bucket. Then I realized that this may not be as great as I had first thought. You see, slime ain’t an easy thing to get rid of. The stickiness, gooeyness, and all around stench of slime is hard to remove.

Sin is SO much worse than slime.

Sin is dirty, shameful, condemning and IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of on our own. But the great thing is, there is a solution to the great mess of sin: Jesus. David puts it so well when he says that God, “lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand” (Psalm 40:2). God doesn’t just want to get rid of our sin; He wants to give us a new and solid place to stand. Wherever you are in life, however deep in the slime of sin you are, God can pull you out.

  • God wants to pull you out of all sin and into a relationship with Him. Are you holding onto a sin you think can’t be cleaned?
  • God wants the impossible for our lives. What would you attempt for God if you knew you could not fail?
