From the very beginning of man, God has desired interaction with us. He walked and talked with Adam and Eve in the Garden – before their arrogance created a gulf between their ugly selfishness and His holy perfection. He could not compromise His holiness, so man was separated from God. And while this didn’t surprise Him or catch Him off guard, it did sadden Him.

In Jesus, God came to walk around in the flesh. He dwelt among man for thirty-three years and then He ended man’s separation from God through His death on a cross. He assumed our sin and its penalty and gave us His purity in its place. After His return to heaven, the Holy Spirit was issued to all believers. The end of separation. The beginning of access.

Paul asks in 1 Corinthians 3:16, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” Our God is intimate and personal, and He wants to dwell in us. Emmanuel. God With Us. That has been His desire and His plan all along.
