All In!

The words “All In!” were once used only by poker players as they sat around card tables and bet everything they had on a hand they believed was unbeatable. Today the phrase has become popular in the sports and political arenas. Husbands and wives have even spoken the words during wedding ceremonies to define their commitment to one another. Poker players, athletes, politicians and spouses should not be alone in using this phrase. As Christians, we should be “ALL IN!” as well.

In verses 12-13, Paul says to the believers in Corinth, “But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.” Paul was challenging the buffet-style approach to the Gospel that was taking place to an extent in Corinth. In today’s terms, Paul was saying, “You gotta go ALL IN!”

We don’t have the authority to determine what parts of Christianity to believe and what parts to deny. The Bible is the infallible word of God. Every part of it is true (2 Timothy 3:16). If we believe the scriptures about Heaven we have to believe the ones on Hell. If we accept the verses on God’s grace we can’t ignore the ones on God’s wrath. If we aren’t  “All In” when it comes to our belief in the Bible then, as Paul writes in verse  14, “...our preaching is useless and so is your faith.”

Be bold in your faith! Go “ALL IN!”

Reflect:

  • What parts of the Bible do you find yourself doubting and why?
  • When have you ever experienced the truth of God’s word in your life?
  • Are you “All In” when it comes to trusting God’s Word?
