Anticipating the Harvest

The chill in the air is more than a sign that fall is upon us; it’s a signal that harvest season is here. After months of hard work and patience, farmers who planted seeds in the summer gather their crops in autumn. The Bible frequently uses this imagery to illustrate how our actions affect our spiritual lives and eternity.

On this side of eternity, we are always sowing. Daily, we make decisions to either follow the Holy Spirit’s prompting or our own selfish desires. In time, our actions will determine what kind of crop we will harvest, whether it’s joy and eternal life or destruction.

Sowing in the Spirit is like sowing seeds on a farm. It takes work, and it takes time. We may not taste the fruit of our labor in this life, but Paul reminds us of God’s promise of eternal life, that “in due season, we will reap if we do not give up.”

Thank God for giving you purpose on this earth and eternal life in the next. Today, take time to show your gratitude and reflect on the kind of crop your life will reap. Are you excited about the harvest?
