Believing In the One God Sent

In 1 Samuel 8, God warns the Israelites through Samuel that things will go badly with their new king. This king will take everything from them, and they will become slaves. Yet the people still want a king to fight their battles (despite all the times God had gone before them, doing the same).

It seems ridiculous, but we sometimes behave the same way. We reject God’s help with things that seem tangible, such as money or security. Maybe, if we knew His will for our lives, we wouldn’t do this. Lucky for us, He lays it out in John 6. Jesus says in John 6:29 that the work of God “is to believe in the one He has sent.” In verse 40 He says, “My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

If we “believe in the one He has sent,” we are heirs with Jesus in the promise of God’s blessings. Remember this and take heart through the challenges you face today. Anything too big for you to overcome is an opportunity to see God at work, fulfilling His promises and pouring out His blessings.
