Better Than We Imagine

Last fall, my contractor and I began to layout renovation plans for my house. I was thinking conservatively, but my contractor was encouraging me toward grander ideas. He assured me not to worry but to just tell him the things I would like to have. I couldn't imagine how my new home would look in the end, but thanks to the contractor, the final work is far more beautiful than anything I could have ever designed.

I imagine heaven must be like this. In 2 Corinthians 5:7, Paul tells the believers in Corinth, “For we live by faith, not by sight.” Our limited human minds cannot envision the splendor and comfort of the heavenly home that God has prepared for us. Paul goes on to tell us that we should desire this new home and look forward to the day that we are united with Him. Though we may not be able to wrap our minds around or see God’s plans and promises, through our faith in Jesus Christ we have hope, which inspires us to please God and glorify Him in everything we do. I thank God for designing my heavenly home and for giving me the promise of eternal life.

  • Do you think of heaven often? How would it change the way you lived if you did?
  • What limits have you put one yourself or your opportunities because you have a limited view of what God can do?
  • If you had a bigger view of God, what would you do?
