Call Me

Fourteen years after Paul’s conversion and calling by God, he met privately with Peter, James and John and laid out the gospel he was preaching and what he was doing in his ministry. The apostles had heard about Paul’s preaching and wanted to know what he was teaching in Jesus’s name. Paul writes in Galatians 2:7 that through the conversation, “they saw that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been to the Jews.”

Paul was called to preach the gospel to the Gentiles — that is, everyone who was not Jewish. It probably seemed like a crazy idea at the time, and he may have sometimes wondered if he was doing the right thing. But this burden was on his heart, and Paul preached to the Gentiles for 14 years before the apostles confirmed he was God-called to do it.

God places a calling, a burden, on each of our lives to do ministry and spread the gospel. Like the apostles did in Paul’s life, friends, family and fellow partners in ministry can see the calling in your life. This is confirmation by God that you are truly following His purpose and calling.

Your calling may not look quite like Paul’s. It may not make sense. It may not seem important. It may seem too big to handle. But if you follow the call, God will place people in your life to confirm that you’re on the right path.

  • To what do you feel called? Is there anyone in your life confirming this call? If not, ask God to show you that you’re on the right path.
  • Not sure what you’re called to? Ask God what He wants you to do.
