Can Impossible Happen to You?

It seems a man whose prayers stopped rain and brought it again must have had supernatural power. But James said Elijah had a “nature like ours.”

What do we know about human nature? Humans start out focused on themselves. We see this in a toddler who wants the toy only when someone else starts playing with it. Humans are sinful. We have all fallen short of God’s best for us. Humans are weak. When our bodies tire they begin to break down and our minds often follow. Elijah dealt with these and all other characteristics of human nature. He was just a man.

So where did the supernatural come from? How did he do things that seem impossible to us? Elijah trusted in God. He spent time talking to God. He listened to God. He placed his faith in God. When God told Elijah to confront Ahab and He would send rain on the earth, Elijah did as God told him. He believed in the promise God made and was obedient. This is why Elijah did things that seem to belong in superhero movies. God worked through Elijah’s faith and obedience.

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours and served the God we serve.  We can believe God for supernatural things, too. We can allow God to speak to us through His spirit and through the Bible. When we spend time knowing what He wants and do what He prompts us to do, we can expect the impossible!
