Complete in Christ

When you’re single, it’s tempting to think you need a mate to complete you. Or, at least, make you happy. Single women might think, “If I can just get married, then all my needs will be met.” Or single men might believe, “If I just had a wife to take care of me, my life would be complete.” Actually, the Bible teaches that a Christian doesn’t need a mate to complete him; he is complete in Christ. Paul told the Colossian church “For in Him[Christ], all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete…” (Col. 2:9-10, NASB). In knowing Christ (being saved), we receive from God everything we need pertaining to life and godliness. (2 Peter 2:3, NASB).

Single people aren’t half a person like the bottom of a ginger jar waiting for a top, a cone waiting for ice cream or a vase waiting for flowers. They don’t have part of God, with the rest coming when they say, “I do.” Single Christians have as much spiritual vitality, identity and abundance as married believers. With the mindset “I am complete in Christ,” a single man or woman can live life to the fullest, understanding they aren’t missing a thing and have the potential to be all that God desires.

Are you secure and complete in Jesus? Do you have, in Him, everything you need? When you come to the liberating place of knowing that Jesus is everything you need, then life will take on new meaning and fullness that no human can provide.
