Deceptive Beauty

The book of Revelation is hard to understand, but one thing is clear in chapter 17: Sexual immorality leads to destruction.

God designed sex to be enjoyed within the context of marriage. This is not because God hates fun and doesn’t want you to enjoy life. Actually, its quite the opposite. God wants to “satisfy the desire of every living thing” (Psalm 145:16). He is full of “abundant goodness” (Psalm 145:7). God wants us to obey his design for sex for both His glory and our joy. He is not out to ruin fun. He is out to fill your life with peace and goodness, and the only way that comes is by obeying His commands.

Revelation 17 shows us sexual immorality ultimately leads to death, no matter how “satisfying” it may seem now. Revelation 17:13 says those who marvel at the beast (sexual immorality) ultimately hand over their power and authority. They give their lives to destruction. God offers a beautiful alternative. He wants you to offer your life to Him. Then you will be “called and chosen and faithful” (Revelation 17:14).

If you’ve messed up in the past, be encouraged. No one is too far gone for God to save. You can’t out sin the grace of God. You are loved, valued and welcomed into the Father’s arms. Enjoy the forgiveness and freedom God pours out on you, then go and sin no more.

  • In what way have you experienced the destructive results of a sin that was fun at the time?
  • Is there any area of sin in your life that you need to confess and walk away from?
