Do you feel lost?

When is the last time you were lost trying to meet someone or get somewhere on time? It is not a welcoming feeling. We use all tools available to us to find our way back on track, whether we call a friend, use a GPS app, or stop and ask for directions. We don’t accept remaining lost in these scenarios; why would we settle there in our spiritual lives?

Isaiah compared the nation of Israel to sheep that have gone astray. They were a group seeking their own path instead of following the shepherd's lead. Isaiah 53:6 says that we all, like sheep, are lost. Unlike the Israelites at the time, we have the gift of seeing how Isaiah 53:4-5 was fulfilled in Jesus death and resurrection. We have the hindsight to know the truth of this amazing prophecy.

Isaiah’s words are hard to read if you let them sink in. Jesus suffered, was pained, stricken, afflicted, pierced, and crushed on the cross...for us. He loves us so much that he was willing to bear death and our sin, so we could be set free (Romans 5:8). Jesus invites us to receive this beautiful gift that cannot be earned or restricted. Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” There is no sin that can separate us from His love and no sin too great to partake in this most precious gift (Romans 8:38-39, Romans 10:13).

In Isaiah 53:5, Isaiah writes these astonishing words: “the punishment that brought us peace” was on Jesus. Do you have peace? Have you been set free? Or are you still lost searching to find your way? The answer is beautiful, simple, and life altering. It is through Jesus that we find this peace and freedom, and He waits patiently for us to come to Him.

  • Is there an area of your life where you feel lost? Have you given Jesus control of that area?
  • What is one step you can take today to bring that part of your life to Jesus?
  • Have you started a relationship with Jesus? If yes, reflect on this wonderful time and thank Him for this precious gift. If not, what is holding you back?

If you would like to talk to someone about your relationship with Jesus, stop by the Care Room at your campus on Sunday, or connect with someone here.
