Don’t Go It Alone

Proverbs 31 describes a woman who brings good to her family. She works diligently day after day to provide what they need. She buys and sells; she makes their clothing. She’s a mother, wife and businesswoman. If we’re honest, this woman intimidates us. We’re even a little jealous of her. How can she get so much done in a day while we struggle checking a few things off our to-do lists? How can she be so deserving of praise while we suffer embarrassment over our mistakes?

In verse 30, we learn that every success this woman experiences, everything worthy of praise in her life, comes from God: “A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” She respects and lives for Him. He gives her the strength and love she needs to serve every day. We have the same power living in us when we accept Jesus’ forgiveness and allow Him to guide our lives.

What gives you strength? Who are you relying on to carry out God’s purposes in your life? So often we rely on ourselves to serve, to complete the work our day holds. We are left exhausted and disappointed in ourselves because we didn’t get it all right. Let the Proverbs 31 woman be your example. Rely on God’s strength and guidance, and He will accomplish in you what He wills.

Reflect:

  • Is there any area of your life where you feel like you just cannot get it all done?
  • Are you relying on your own strength or God's power in you to get your work done?
  • What is one thing that you can turn over to God today and let Him get it done through His power in you?
