Don’t Starve

There is one vital similarity between our physical and spiritual selves: they both must eat. Imagine going five days without eating any food. The physical, mental and emotional implications would be noticeable. People would exclaim, “You need to eat something!” It is exactly the same for our spiritual lives. The Bible is our spiritual nourishment. We do not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord (Deuteronomy 8:3). We can’t go days without spending time in God’s Word and expect to be spiritually fed, alert and ready. The amount of time we invest seeking God in His Word directly affects how we deal with the ups and downs of life, how we view and react to the needs of others, and how we distinguish good from evil (Hebrews 5:13-14).

We need to be a body of believers who lives daily by God's truth. Yet, if we are not spending daily, quality time with God in His Word, we automatically begin to revert back to worldly points of view, dealing with life’s issues with our senses instead of by faith in His written promises.

  • Are you seeking God daily in His word? Are even your routine decisions based on His written promises?
  • Do you feel you are growing in your understanding of God's word, or has your knowledge of the Bible stayed the same for years? What can you do to learn more about scripture?
  • How can you live your life by the Spirit and to be a living, walking Bible for those who need Jesus?
