Don’t Walk Away from the Fight

As a kid, my parents taught me to walk away when someone was trying to pick a fight. That may have been good advice when I was younger, but I don’t have that option when it comes to living for Christ. Ephesians 6 reminds us that our fight is “not against flesh and blood” but against our sinfulness. And when sin picks a fight with us, our only option is to fight back.

Fighting sin involves a daily decision to live for Christ in a world that may not like how that looks. Peter writes, “I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that…they see your good deeds and glorify God” (1 Peter 9:11-12).

In this fight, we must live differently than the world around us. We must make tough decisions and sacrifices. We must love when we don’t feel like it and forgive when it’s difficult. In the end, our lives will give God the glory because we chose to fight.
