There are many school teachers who have taught elementary school for 20 years but have only one year of experience. These teachers never progressed past their initial experience. These teachers lacked the maturity that came with years of experience because they failed to capitalize on daily opportunities for growth. This same problem plagues us in our walk with Jesus. We must not fail to take advantage of every learning environment and opportunity for growth. Our church gives us opportunities to develop. We must take responsibility for our own growth. We must develop the discipline of daily prayer and bible reading. Through feeding on the milk of God’s Word we will grow toward maturity. In addition, we must never waste our daily struggles and pain. These circumstances are used by God as a tool to refine us. This is a powerful way to move past the pain of your past. Philippians 3:16 says, “Only let us live up to what we have already attained.” We learn something new every day but many days we fail to apply what we have learned. Our future is not determined by our good intentions; rather, our destiny is determined by the direction we choose today. Let us live up to the knowledge He has entrusted us with by living a life of application.
