Eyes On The Prize

Every four years people from around the world are fascinated by the Olympic Games. We watch hours of athletics, anticipating events and predicting outcomes. However, some of the most captivating moments in the games are the victory ceremonies. We find ourselves mesmerized by the celebration as flags are waved and national anthems are played.

James compares the Christian life to the life of an athlete who has received the victor’s crown. Like Olympians, who must train consistently and overcome trials, our walk with Christ requires us to persevere. We will face times of uncertainty, but we can prepare for challenges by reading God's word, serving His people and communicating with Him through prayer. By keeping our eyes on Christ, we can withstand the tests and “receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him” (James 1:12).

  • What kind of spiritual training do you do daily to prepare yourself to withstand temptation and trials?
  • How do you celebrate the miracles the Lord has done in your life?
