Feeling Forgotten

Have you ever felt forgotten? Maybe your Mom forgot to pick you up from school or your spouse forgot to call while on a business trip. Maybe you are going through something now and it feels like God has forgotten about you. You pray, you read your Bible and you go to church. But still no response from your Heavenly Father.

David, a man after God’s own heart, experienced that exact same feeling. In Psalm 13, he cries out to God, “O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day?”

Every Christ follower faces struggles. I know I’ve been there. In fact, Jesus tells his disciples in John 16:33 that life is not going to be easy. “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (NLT).

Regardless of how our circumstances make us feel, God never forgets us. His plans are sometimes beyond our understanding, but they are always good. David reminded himself of this truth as he finished Psalm 13: “But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me” (NLT).

There is no telling what God has planned on the other side of what you’re going through, but take courage in the fact that He is with you always.
