Finding Peace Within Strife

Proverbs 17:1 says, “Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting with strife.”

For years, Americans have been feasting. This lifestyle led to over indulgence, waste, debt, selfishness and anxiety. People were more focused on material things and position than on God and family. Now, people at all levels are losing homes, cars and life savings.

I watched an upper middle class family go from a big house with two cars to a rented home, one-third of their belongings and a shared car between two working adults. But what I witnessed was not anger, bitterness or hopelessness. Instead, I saw faith that had grown stronger. Peace washed over this family like a spring shower.

God uses difficult seasons to help us grow. Sometimes having less opens our eyes to what is really important. This tough economic time can be such a good opportunity to totally rely on God. Put worry away. Remember God wants the best for us, but He wants to be first in our lives. Trust in Him and He will give you peace.
