Friction versus Fulfillment

You can bet we’ll never find success in our career, marriage or parenting by chasing our wants and desires unless those wants and desires are aligned with God. The result of misalignment with God is relational friction. Our relationships with God and those around us are negatively affected by our selfish desires. The very pieces precisely designed to work in harmony will eventually destroy one another as they compete for their own wants and desires.

Instead, we must complement each other as God designed by meeting each other’s needs and wants in the context of God’s plan. When we focus on God’s will for our lives and seek to unselfishly serve those around us, we’ll find that each one is completely fulfilled.

In addition, we must never insist that our job, spouse or children fill emotional, physical or spiritual needs that only God can fill. Sometimes when we have needs or desires we ask with the right motives, we just don’t ask the right person. Until Jesus fills all our emotional, physical and spiritual needs, we will find it difficult to place our desires in proper perspective.
