From Disgrace to Grace

“When wickedness comes, so does contempt, and with shame comes disgrace” (Proverbs 18:3).

The Christian life can be tough sometimes, because we are always battling sin.  We go through seasons where we are following Jesus closely, reading our Bibles, volunteering, but then we let sin or wickedness enter our lives. We began to feel unworthy and distant from God. This is Satan’s goal. He tries to do whatever it takes to make us lose sight of Jesus, because when a person is focused on Christ and His kingdom, Satan loses influence in his life.

So the question is: How do we battle the shame and disgrace that come from the sin we commit?

The truth is, we don’t. Christ has already fought and won this battle. The way disgrace is overcome is with the grace Christ provides. His death and resurrection have paid the price for all your past, present and future sin. Once we have confessed and repented of our sin, our relationship with Christ is restored. There is nothing more God requires.

Examine your heart. Are you trying to earn your way into God’s good graces? Or, are you scared to reach out to God because of something you’ve done? It’s time to try a new approach. “Approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
