Get Out of the Way

At The Gauntlet 2010, I prayed to receive Jesus into my heart. I was 13. When I finished praying, I heard God tell me I would one day live in Kenya. When I turned 16, I had the opportunity to do what God told me, and it was the best week of my life.

I had led two friends to Christ in America, but never in Africa, and certainly not through interpreters. I was nervous. I was sometimes confused. But I let go of my emotions to give God all the glory. I was able to lead eight people to Christ. When I returned home I reflected: What if I submitted to my feelings while in Kenya? God showed me through His word what would have happened.

In Acts 10:24-48, God tells Peter to go to Ceasarea to present the Gospel to the Gentiles, a group of people who did not believe in Jesus Christ. Peter had to present Christ’s message in a simple, clear way to people who most likely had never heard of Jesus. Peter was probably a bit nervous, but he pushed past his emotions. That decision led to salvation among the Gentiles.

We must put our feelings at the feet of Jesus to show Him to other people. This may mean you need to talk to your resentful friend or sign up to be a volunteer. It might mean you need to be baptized to show everyone what God has done in your heart. We all have different next steps, and we will be rewarded in heaven and on earth for pushing past our emotions for God to get glory.

Reflect:

  • What is your next step?
  • What is God telling you to do right now that you have been saying “no” to because of your emotions?
  • What do you think God thinks of your “no”?
