God’s Women Can Step Up

In Acts 16, we visit two women whose faith lit the way for others to follow Jesus.

In the very first verse we meet Timothy’s mother. She had a dramatic effect on her son’s life, even though her husband was an unbeliever. “The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him,” verse 2 says of Timothy, and Paul wanted to take him along on his journey. Timothy’s mom set an example of faith that brought about Timothy’s salvation and the opportunity to share Jesus on the road with Paul and eventually to be a church leader.

The next woman we encounter is Lydia. Acts 16:14 describes her as “a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God.” In today’s terms, she was a working woman who believed in God. As Paul spoke to a group of women gathered by a river, the Lord opened Lydia’s heart to Paul’s message. Lydia became a follower of Jesus. Then, verse 15 tells us, Lydia’s whole household was baptized. Lydia shared her story, and it led to her family being saved.

Christian women today can affect lives just like Timothy’s mother and Lydia. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, working single, divorced, widowed or any combination thereof, you can spread the gospel. When you show and share your faith, God can use it to do a great work in others’ lives.
