Growing People Change

Each day, I put on my walking shoes and set out to walk/jog a couple of miles. The second half of my route is almost completely uphill. I don’t know how many times I’ve wanted to turn around and just run back down it and give up altogether. However, the only way I will get where I really want to be is to keep my feet moving forward, one step at a time.

Our walk with Christ is not so different. Sometimes it is uphill, and it is hard. Sometimes we want to turn around and run back to our old lives. Sometimes it seems as if it would be easier to just give up. However, the only way to have the abundant life that Jesus promises is to keep moving forward, one step at a time.

Once we have a relationship with Jesus, we are not the same people we once were. We can keep moving forward because Jesus has changed us from the inside out. The apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 3 that he has not been made perfect, but he keeps moving forward, taking the steps that Jesus is leading him to take. Philippians 3:13-14 says, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

When following Jesus seems hard, we can keep moving forward because every step that He calls us to take leads us closer to Him. Don’t look back. Keep moving forward, one step at a time.
