It’s Not All About You!

At one point or another, we all struggle with an “it’s all about me" attitude. Just think, one of the very first words many of us learn to say is “mine.” We are all naturally born thinking about ourselves, our interests and our needs. But this attitude is not what Jesus wants for us. And a selfish life is far from the life Jesus has planned for us. Instead of looking to to our selves Paul makes it clear in 1 Corinthians that, “no one should seek their own good, but the good of others” (1 Corinthians 10:24). As we look at Jesus’s life we see that His life and ministry were always focused on others. Jesus led the way in showing us how to put others before ourselves in our daily life.

This kind of servant-attitude is not normal, but it was this very attitude that drew people to Jesus so they could be saved. Jesus calls us to be servants, but our hearts cannot make this change without Jesus living inside us and without a posture of constant prayer and obedience. By actively putting others before ourselves for the glory of God, our hearts and lives begin to mirror that of Jesus’s, and people will be drawn to Him because of our "it's all about Him" attitude.

Reflect:

  • Are you focused on serving others or serving yourself?
  • How can you reposition your heart and mind to care more about other people?
