Know Your Purpose

The majority of teachers have heard the statement "I don't know how you do it" more than once in their career. Despite the stress of the job, most teachers are able to thrive because they are clear on their purpose. When we understand the purpose behind our career choice, what may seem difficult to others can become routine to us. The same is true for our faith as Christians. Spiritual growth can be challenging without knowing and understanding our purpose.

Philippians 2:2 says, "Then make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love,  being one in spirit and purpose." When we understand our purpose as Christians, which is to use the gifts God has given us to go and make Jesus’s name famous,  the challenge of being Christ-like begins to make sense.  We are able to be servants with joyful hearts. We understand the importance of putting others before ourselves. We eagerly look forward to opportunities that allow us to share the Gospel.

When we work with our brothers and sisters in Christ toward one common goal, sharing the gift of salvation with those who don’t know Christ, we are bringing joy to Christ and living out God’s purpose for our lives.

Reflect:

  • How do you use the gifts God has given you to serve others and share the Gospel?
  • What opportunities are available for you to fulfill your purpose as a Christ follower?
