Maker and Keeper

Nehemiah 7:73-9:21

Anyone could pinky promise to never expose your secret or assure you they will be at a certain place at a specific time, but very rarely do you come across a person who is always a promise maker and a promise keeper. I don’t think anyone in the world can honestly say they have never broken a promise. We are human, therefore we are imperfect. But, our God is a promise maker and a promise keeper — always.

In Nehemiah 9, the Levites are reminiscing about the Lord’s goodness to the Israelites. They remember promises God had made about deliverance, abundant land and plentiful descendants. As they are remembering His promises made, they recognize His promises kept. “You have kept your promise because You are righteous” (Nehemiah 9:8). No matter what the Israelites or Levites had done to deserve a broken promise, God never abandoned them or went back on what He said He would do (Nehemiah 9:19).

This fabulous quality of our God still stands today. Every promise made will be a promise kept for “the Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). Our God is a promise maker and a promise keeper.
