More Than Words

As small children, our parents teach us to say “thank you” when we receive a gift or a kind gesture. But decades later, saying “thanks” can be an automatic response with little meaning behind it.

Psalm 105 gives us some insight on what it really means to be thankful. Thankfulness is more than words, it’s a way of life. When we remember what God has done for us, we want to tell people about Him every opportunity we get (Psalm 105:1-2). Thankfulness causes us to give God the glory and not take the credit for His blessings (Psalm 105:5). And, thankfulness motivates us to "pay it forward" by serving the people God has placed in our lives — both believers and unbelievers.

God gave His one and only Son so we can have eternal life in heaven and an abundant life on earth. That is reason enough to live a life transformed by gratitude. Is thankfulness evident in the life you’re leading?

Take time today to thank God for Jesus. Thank Him for saving you and for giving you a new life in Christ. Ask for the courage to tell others the reason for the change they see in you, and look for opportunities to serve others so that they might see Jesus in you.

  • What is one thing that you are thankful for today?
  • What is one way that you can demonstrate thankfulness in your life today?
  • Who can you serve today to show them Jesus in you?
