Naked, yet unashamed

In case you don’t know yet, there is a connection between Christ and the church and marriage.  Throughout scripture we see this analogy. The human race has been given marriage for companionship, for pleasure, and for pleasing God.

Anyone who has a healthy marriage will tell you that sex is a very small part of their marriage.  What holds a far greater portion is emotional and spiritual intimacy.

God has developed a mechanism by which we are able to share the same kind of intimacy with him: Prayer. We cannot cross the divide between our everyday lives and experiencing God through prayer without being willing to remove the masks that we don everyday. The masks of being ok, of independence, of protecting ourselves from rejection, of our self-imposed and socially perceived identity, of confidence; all must be removed when kneeling before the Almighty in prayer. He helps us remove them because we cannot help but be the most pure version of ourselves in his presence.

The challenge here is twofold.  We must develop this kind of trust with our spouse and be prepared to enter this intimacy with God.
