No Money in the Bank

Have you ever gone to purchase something and found that your debit card was declined and you’d run out of money? Nothing can create that gut-wrenching feeling quite like the surprise that there’s no money in the bank. As the embarrassment rushes in, you try everything that you can think of--swiping the card really fast or really slow, covering it in a grocery bag or having the cashier type in the card number - in hopes that somehow your card will just give way and work so you can go on with your day. But no matter how hard you try to make it work, if there’s no money in the bank, it isn’t going to happen.

In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul told the Corinthians that love was it--it’s the reason why they did what they did and what would fuel their lives. No matter the words they used, the power they had or the plans they made, nothing was going to work if they didn’t have love.

Love is more than a fluffy feeling or a cheesy card. It is more than an elated emotion or a warranted reward. Love is it. It’s the whole point of who God is, who we are, and what we do! Without love, we have nothing. Just like a debit card won’t work without money, our lives won’t work without love. “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity” (Colossians 3:14).
