No Role Too Small

“There’s no such thing as a small role!” It’s the famous line in theater that is used when people get the part of an extra instead of the star, and the director doesn’t want them to feel bad. I remember being a tree once in my theater’s play of Red Riding Hood - not exactly my shining moment. I remember thinking, “My role IS small! It doesn’t matter at all!” But boy was I wrong. The play wouldn’t have been the same if Red was the only person on stage. If there were no trees, no birds, no wolf, or no grandma, there would be no story.

In Acts 23, there was a group of Jews that secretly gathered to plot to kill Paul. The group was so passionate about their plot that they swore to each other that they wouldn’t eat or sleep until Paul was dead. One young boy, however, heard of this and changed the future of Paul’s ministry with his courage. Paul’s nephew heard of this awful plot to kill Paul and immediately went to his uncle to warn him. Because Paul knew of the plot, he was able to have the commander informed of the plan. The commander, knowing that Paul did not deserve death, was able to spare Paul’s life by transferring him away from the Jews that wanted him dead. The word of a boy saved the life of a man who inspired nations to come to know Jesus. There is NO such thing as a small role in God’s book.

You are exactly where God wants you so that He can use you for the glory of His kingdom. Whether it’s taking the stage of your own story or helping build the story of someone else, God has given you the role you have for JUST the right reason.

Reflect:

  • Is God calling you to help tell someone’s story?
  • God has you where you are RIGHT NOW for what He wants to use you for RIGHT NOW. What role is God calling you to take today?
