O Little Town of Bethlehem

Hundreds of years before the first Christmas, Micah prophesied that the Messiah would be born, not in Jerusalem but in the little village of Bethlehem: “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past” (Micah 5:2 NLT).

A couple of verses after Micah prophesies about Bethlehem, he shares a much more important truth about the Messiah: He will be the source of peace (Micah 5:5a NLT).

Jesus is the only true source of peace. He reminds us of this near the end of His life on earth: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27 NLT).

In this season of Christmas, when all around you life is anything but peaceful, remember that the very first gift of Christmas Jesus himself came to give us was peace.
