On A Mission To Serve

For a Christian, serving is not optional. Jesus has called each of us to serve in different ways. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Mustering up the courage to serve at church can be difficult and overwhelming. But if Jesus has called us to it, then we must listen and do what he says.

There is always an excuse to be made, a deadline or something else to take up our time. Excuses can lead us to miss out on the incredible joy we experience by being part of the local church.

Jesus is always with us when we take our next step of serving. In Acts 1:8, Jesus promised to equip us for the job. Before going back to heaven, Jesus said, “... you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Jesus will be with us wherever He leads us, even if it’s farther than we ever thought we would go.

  • What’s your next step when it comes to serving? Maybe it’s getting involved in the church. Maybe it’s taking a foreign mission trip.
  • What are you good at? What are you passionate about? How can you use your skills and passions to tell people about Jesus and “make disciples of all nations”?
