Ordinary People

The banquet that Jesus invites us to is no ordinary banquet. We are invited into God’s house to sit at his table so that we can have a relationship with Him. God wants to share this extraordinary opportunity with ordinary people.

Jesus is so serious about reaching the lost that He endured the cross. Jesus came to lay his life down for those who are completely undeserving of his love. His entire life was for one purpose: to find the people far from God and invite them to the greatest party in the universe.

In this parable, the servant had gone into the city to find people, but there was still room. Then the master told the servant, “Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in.” God wants us to reach those who have been forgotten by the rest of the world. The very people who the world forgets are exactly those who God wants to invite to his feast. The Gospel is for everyone!

God is willing to go to the ends of the earth to find the people that need His great invitation. Now that He lives in us, He has called us to do the same. He has called us to go out and tell the world about the great banquet that is taking place and extend the same invitation to come and eat.

  • What can we learn about Jesus from this passage?
  • Why did the Master urge the servants to go out and find more people?
  • Who is the one person in your life that you want to meet Jesus? Pray for that person now. Do whatever it takes to invite them to church.
