Our Ultimate Provider

"My God My Father," a new song from NewSpring Worship, was inspired by Isaiah 64:8 and Matthew 22:37. Click here to listen to "My God My Father" before you read, or download the song on iTunes.

When children are born, they are completely dependent on their parents. They look to them for everything - food, shelter, clothing, protection, love and more. Their parents mold them and teach them through each stage of life, continuing to offer guidance as they grow. And, through that, children love their parents for their guidance and provision.

Our Heavenly father is like our earthly parents - but so much more. What our parents give us in life, God provides for all of eternity. He knew every detail about us before our parents ever met us, and He will always know what we need before we can even ask for it.

As much as we love our earthly parents and those who have provided and continue to provide for us as we grow, we should love our Heavenly father immeasurably more. Matthew 22:37 says to love God “with all [our] heart and with all [our] soul and with all [our] mind.” We are the work of His hands (Isaiah 64:8), and He is our ultimate provider. It is because of Him that we have anything good. He is our everything.

  • How do you show your earthly parents that you love and appreciate them? How do you show your Heavenly father that you love and appreciate Him?
  • Do you have a rocky relationship with your earthly parents? What is one way you can turn to your Heavenly father to find the provision, encouragement and love that you may be missing?
