A paradox is a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth. Jesus’s statement in Matthew 10:39 is a great example of a paradox: “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

What Jesus is saying is that He’s not interested in our efforts to fix, find or fake our lives. He is interested in complete surrender to Him. Only when we surrender our lives to Him do we discover His purpose for us.

We were created in Christ to do what God prepared for us to do, which will bring Him all the glory. In the person of Jesus we find our reason for living.
