Pass the Ball

Ask any basketball player, and they will tell you that passing is the key to winning any game. A team that moves the ball well will have more opportunties to score. There’s no stats to track good passing, but it takes as much precision and timing as a scoring lay-up.

This life is as fast paced as a game of basketball, and sharing the love of Christ is a lot like passing the ball. You have to be willing to give up control. Let’s say you offended someone. You’ve apologized to that person and sought their forgiveness. You confessed your sin to God and sought His forgiveness. At this point, the ball is in your friend’s court. Hopefully, he will accept your forgiveness, and the relationship will be restored. Let’s say you have a friend who does not know the Lord. You love this person unconditionally. You encourage, you minister, you invite him to church. You do everything you can to let him see Jesus in you. The ball is in his court.

When we share Jesus’s love with someone else, we give up control of the ball. Jesus is the one who scores. We cannot make the other person receive forgiveness. We cannot make the other person receive Christ. But as a members of “Team Jesus,” we’re playing the game to win. That means we share Jesus’s love and forgiveness with as many people as possible. Whether it is restoring relationships or spreading the good news, let us do everything we can to make Jesus known.
