Passing on the Faith

"Great is The Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty ..." (Psalm 145:3-5)

God has entrusted mankind, feeble and fallen, into our hands. This is noted in Psalm 145. God has given us not only the job of recognizing his greatness and praising Him for it, but sharing that act of worship with the next generation.

In any situation where we find ourselves upset, worried or frustrated, praise comes to our lips when we remember God's past faithfulness. This cannot help but cheer our hearts, and a cheerful heart always brings good fruit in our lives.

Some of that good fruit is sharing our faith with the next generation. This could be a father giving a 10-minute Bible study to his children, a mother teaching her children to trust God during a difficult chore or homework assignment, a Sunday school teacher singing to a baby in the nursery or a spiritual mentor pouring his life into a younger person. Evangelism is not just knocking on your next-door neighbor's door. Often it is the life-to-life, shoulder-to-shoulder discipleship that comes in the everyday form of home and church life.

Reflect:

  • Is there an older person in your life that is currently passing the faith to you? If not, who could you ask to be your mentor?
  • How often do you share your faith with your children?
  • If you do not have children, is God showing you a young person you can share your faith experiences with to pass His glory to the next generation?
