Peace of my Heart

I’m prone to worry and stress. I do it to myself, allowing the incidentals to eat me up inside. Anxiety and doubt make sorry bedfellows, often kicking and crowding when I would much prefer some peaceful dreaming.

When I bring these cantankerous pals to my time with Jesus, He reminds me that I’m not in control of what’s causing me worry and stress. When I pause and acknowledge His fingerprints on my day, His intervention in my routine and His faithfulness in my past, I know God is in control and I can chill in Christ.

In Isaiah 48, God laments the stubbornness of the Israelites – listing the ways He revealed Himself to them, calling out their idolatry. The illusion of control can be an idol. Too often, we make ourselves the the god of our lives. But when we take God at His Word – when we believe Him and recognize His masterful control over our circumstances – He offers peace like a river and righteousness like the waves of the sea.
