Praying and Expecting Good Things (for Others)

Let’s admit it: most of us like to talk about ourselves. There are plenty of online surveys, Q&A journals and blogs to support this self indulgence, and we tend to flock to them.

Self examination can be a healthy practice. But when our own thoughts and circumstances become our obsession, we’ve got a problem.

Romans 12:3 says we should think of others more highly than ourselves. This means we should pray for our friends and family members. We should ask God’s blessings to rain down on them as fervently as we ask Him to rain down blessings on us. We should expect great things for them, radiate encouragement toward them and rejoice over them in their victorious and joy-filled moments.

Let us pray for those who surround us today, focusing more on their needs and desires than on our own deficiencies. Let us ask God to bless them abundantly, to shine His face upon them, to meet their needs and answer their prayers.
