Seeing And Believing Leads To Healing

Many of us were raised by parents who could command authority with a look. Others of us required words; but we knew by the tone of voice that straightening up was required or dire and unpleasant actions to the seat of our pants would follow.

In Mark 1, the people who heard Jesus teach in the synagogue were amazed because “he taught them as one who had authority.” They perceived Jesus’ words to be the only authority needed to make them listen to what He said.

Then, Jesus healed a man right in front of them. As a result, they believed what He was telling them! Jesus also healed the mother-in-law of Simon, later called Peter. The news about Jesus spread from person to person throughout Galilee. More people came to see Jesus, to hear what He said, to see what He did — and as a result, they believed! Because they perceived authority in Jesus’ teaching and believed what they were hearing, many received His precious healing.

Don’t miss this pattern displayed over and over in accounts of Jesus’ ministry: Only when we perceive Jesus’ authority and believe in His ability will we receive His healing. Need healing in your life today? See Jesus for who He is, believe He is able and receive His healing.
