Serve More, Reach More

Saved people serve people. Found people find people. You can’t do life alone. These three core values of our church are important to us now, just as they were crucial for Paul during his time of ministry.

Paul endured hard times when sharing the Gospel of Jesus, but he uses Philippians to remind us he couldn’t have done it alone. Paul says about Timothy in verse 20 that, “I have no one else like him,” and in verse 22, “he has served with me in the work of the Gospel.” In verse 25, about Epaphroditus he says, “my brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier.” Paul also describes the importance of serving others in preaching the Good News. Paul needed support from people who were genuine and who would endure hard times with him. Timothy and Epaphroditus cared for Paul and thus helped him spread the news more effectively.

Our purpose as Christians will always be to share the Gospel with others. How we do that, however, won’t always look the same. Sometimes we are the ones who do the talking. Sometimes we are serving those doing the talking. No matter what our role, when we are selfless and intentional as we work together, we will be able to serve more and reach more.

Reflect:

  • What role are you currently playing in helping others meet Jesus?
  • How can you help those around you serve Jesus more effectively?
