Show the world your joy

One day at roller derby practice a teammate asked me, “Do the people at your church know you’re doing this?”

While I could joyfully answer, “Yes, they think it’s awesome,” I knew where her question came from.

Even today, there are Pharisees in the church who get so caught up in acting a certain way that they forget to live the full life God wants for them. They begin setting their own standards and judging others by them, pushing people away from Jesus instead of drawing people toward Him.

When the Pharisees asked Jesus’s disciples why He ate with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus replied, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’”

Maintaining a self-righteous attitude and isolating ourselves from the rest of the world stops Christians from spreading the Gospel and sharing Jesus’s love the way He intended. Stopping short of sin, we want to reach out to all people, remembering that the Holy Spirit works in each of us differently. It is not our job to judge, but to be an example. Let’s let Jesus’s example guide our actions and attitudes as we share His amazing gift with the world.
