Spiritual Acid

If someone handed you a bottle of hydrochloric acid, you wouldn’t pour it all over your body. It doesn’t make sense to inflict pain, misery and scarring on ourselves. But this is what we do to our marriages when we indulge ourselves with pornography. Lust is the sinful acid that eats away at any marital foundation.

Pornography is destroying what God made perfect. God literally made one woman for one man for life. The Bible shows us in Mark 10:7-9 that a man and his wife become “one flesh” through marriage. When we turn to pornography for our sexual pleasure, we pour acid over what God put in place for us. Women become objects for men to pleasure themselves with, rather than daughters of God that they should serve. It quickly destroys a wife’s self esteem and confidence. If that wasn’t reason enough to stop, Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:28 that it’s adultery to look at a woman lustfully.

If you’re stuck in this vicious cycle of sin, there is hope. The first step is repentance. Ask God to forgive you. There is no sin too big for God to forgive. The second step is to get it out in the open. Satan loves secrecy, especially this kind. Share your struggle with a fellow Christian and ask for help. Find an accountability partner, someone you can answer to every week about what you’re looking at. Finally, stay in God’s word. Every acid can be neutralized by a base. Growing in God’s word is the base that will reverse a pattern of sinful lust.

Pornography hurts you and your spouse. The good news is that God’s grace is bigger than any sin.
