Step up

Whenever people would ask me, “How is your walk with Christ?" I used to imagine walking down down a long straight road with Jesus. Colossians 3 changed that perspective.

Colossians 3:1 (ESV) says, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

If we are seeking things that are above, we have to climb. Our walk with Christ has a vertical progression. Colossians 3:5 (ESV) goes on to say, “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you, sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

When you become a Christian, sins you may have once enjoyed are no longer enjoyable. The Holy Spirit that lives inside of us grieves when we sin. The conviction in our hearts creates discomfort, and it pushes us to take new steps toward those things that are above. As we put our sins to death, we begin to become more like Jesus.

Each person’s vertical progression will take a different shape. The battles you face are important, no matter how easy or insignificant they may seem to someone else. Our heavenly Father desperately wants us to take these next steps and wants to help us. What's your next step?
